Fundamental Elements, led by the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA), is an EU R&D funding initiative designed to accelerate the development of advanced EGNSS-enabled chipsets, receivers and antennas, vital components for positioning, navigation and timing technologies across space and terrestrial domains.
Two calls are now open for submission, inviting innovators and organisations to contribute to Europe’s next generation of GNSS receiver technologies. The deadline for proposals is 30 January 2026.
Galileo HAS-enabled Space Receiver
This call seeks proposals to develop a high-performance GNSS receiver for space applications, specifically targeting LEO satellites (50–500 kg) and other space use cases. The objective is to integrate the Galileo High Accuracy Service (HAS), which delivers real-time decimetre-level accuracy, into space receivers with Precise Point Positioning (PPP) capability.
- Focus: Space GNSS receivers leveraging Galileo HAS
- TRL: Technology development for space deployment
- Budget: Up to €2 million in total (with funding for up to two projects)
- Maximum EU co-financing rate of eligible costs: 70%
- Impact: Enable cutting-edge positioning accuracy for satellites and space systems
Robust and Professional Receiver Leveraging Galileo Differentiators
The second call aims to support the development of robust, professional-grade GNSS solutions that take full advantage of Galileo’s differentiating features, including services like the High Accuracy Service (HAS), the Open Service Navigation Message Authentication (OSNMA) and the Emergency Warning Satellite Service (EWSS) — along with advanced receiver-level technologies.
This competitive call targets innovative, cost-effective systems that can be validated in operational environments and contribute to standards evolution. Typical application areas include enhanced situational awareness, critical infrastructure monitoring, transport of special goods, and professional navigation systems.
- Focus: Professional GNSS receiver solutions leveraging Galileo differentiators
- TRL: Minimum TRL 7 required
- Budget: Up to €3 million in total (with funding for up to three projects)
- Maximum EU co-financing rate of eligible costs: 70%
These calls represent a key opportunity for the EU space industry to innovate and help drive wider adoption of European GNSS technologies, supporting competitiveness and addressing user needs in strategic market segments.
