Space Y and BavAIRia are joining forces to foster dialogue on space skills within the Munich Satellite Navigation Summit 2025, with the organisation of a round-table on “Measures to foster the development of skilled workforces in the European space sector” on the 28th of March 2025.
The Munich Satellite Navigation Summit is among the most important events dedicated to satellite navigation in Europe. Its 2025 edition, taking place from the 26th to the 28th of March, will focus on the topic of “Resilient PNT – Backbone of Autonomy & Critical Infrastructure!”.
The event will discuss number of topics related to the latest developments in GNSS, including new solutions to overcome increasing jamming and spoofing events and threats to signal integrity posed by natural phenomena such as solar activity.
The round-table jointly organised by Space Y and BavAIRia (the association of Bavarian stakeholders in civil and military aviation, space and space applications) aims at gathering feedback from representatives from the industry on their needs in terms of skills and at engaging them in a discussion on ways to maximise the impacts of the initiatives that are being implemented at the EU level.
Indeed, the European Union has introduced several initiatives, including the SPACE4GEO partnership and the Space Career Launchpad, to address the skills gap in the space sector. The EU Space Strategy for Security and Defence underscores the urgency of upskilling and reskilling to meet growing industry demands. Recent projects supported by Space Y, such as SpaceSUITE and ASTRAIOS are also aiming at filling the skills gap.
Based on the work made so far at EU level, this round-table will explore critical questions: What skills are most in demand? How effective are current EU mechanisms for skills development? What additional measures are needed to bridge the gap between job supply and demand? By engaging academia and the industry, we aim to shape actionable solutions for the sector.
