Daniela Genta, Space Y’s President, will contribute to the discussions of the opening panel of the DIVERIS Annual Meeting, “Breaking Structural Barriers: Building Inclusive Talent Pipelines in the Space and Defence Ecosystems”.
The meeting is organised on the 7th of May in Brussels by the European Commission, through DG DEFIS, on the occasion of EU Diversity Month, bringing together members of the DIVERIS network and stakeholders from across the European space and defence ecosystems.
The meeting provides a platform to exchange practices, discuss current challenges and identify concrete actions to advance diversity and inclusion in highly technical sectors, where these are increasingly recognised as enablers of innovation, resilience and long-term competitiveness.
The European Union has established a comprehensive policy framework to promote equality and inclusion in the workplace, as part of its broader ambition to build a “Union of Equality.” This includes dedicated strategies on gender equality, anti-racism, LGBTIQ+ rights, and the inclusion of persons with disabilities, alongside key legislative instruments such as the Pay Transparency Directive (EU) 2023/970 and the Work-Life Balance Directive.
These measures aim to strengthen equal opportunities and to fight discrimination across the labour market, although their implementation depends on national transposition by Member States.
Beyond compliance, diversity is increasingly recognised as a strategic asset: inclusive organisations are better equipped to innovate, attract and retain talent, and respond to complex societal and technological challenges. In sectors such as space and defence, where skills shortages and rapid transformation are shaping the future, fostering diverse and inclusive workplaces is essential to unlocking Europe’s full potential.
